Mom and Dad Married in 1944
My Dad was stationed on the first USS Enterprise. He and my Mom became penpals at the encouragement of my Mom's aunt. They wrote to each other about a year. Using the mail, Dad asked her to marry him, she accepted and he sent her engagement ring through the mail. They met face-to-face on a Saturday and Dad asked her father for her hand in marriage. They got married the next day!
